Cushions

Cushions are one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to update a room, injecting personality and a burst of colour. They’re the icing on the cake when it comes to making a room feel complete. Choosing the right cushions doesn’t have to be difficult, check out our buying guide below for some quick tips!

How to Crush Your Cushion Game

  1. Use cushions to complement your existing décor. If your room has a rustic or coastal-style vibe, choose warm, earthy tones like beige, mustard or dusky pink. Make a white cushion stand out against a navy or teal sofa. 2. Add depth to neutral tones by selecting two or three bolder hues, helping to brighten up a space. You can even use shades from the same colour palette, ranging from lightest to darkest.
  2. Find inspiration from a wide range of sources. Look at the colours or prints of your favourite handbag or dress, or wall art, throw blankets, curtains and other accessories.
  3. Textures and patterns can also be a great way to add depth and to break up solid colours. Combine faux fur or velvet cushions with a sleek leather sofa for a luxurious feel, or pair cushions with abstract designs with a throw blanket for artistic flair.
  4. What’s the ideal number of cushions to have? Using two or four cushions can create the perfect balance on a sofa, while three cushions can feel eclectic and modern.
  5. Cushions don’t all have to be the same shape and size. Throw in a rectangle or round cushion with square cushions for a more laid back vibe or set big cushions on a larger couch.
  6. When arranging your cushions, layering is key. Many use an odd number of cushions, starting with the largest first at the back and working your way down to the smallest at the front. But there really are no rules for arranging your cushions – just have fun experimenting with different style combinations!
  7. Cushions should not only look good, but also designed to last. Look for materials that are able to withstand daily wear and tear. Make sure to ‘chop’ cushions in the centre to push filling out of the corners to give them that nice, plump look.
  8. Keep practicality in mind – too many cushions, and they’ll most likely end up on the floor half the time; too few, and the room will look kind of bare. Have fun and experiment to bring some colour and flair to your space. Add a few comfy cushions to your home.
