In 2012, CHANEL initiated a robust research program devoted to the study of the skin's ageing mechanism in collaboration with Prof. Grillari, a global expert in the field from the University of Vienna.
Researchers from the House of CHANEL conducted extensive testing in order to find the most powerful anti-ageing active ingredients, studying 6,000 women's faces from all over the world and using 2D and 3D reconstructed skin models to map the signs of ageing, until they discovered the effectiveness of red camellia extract on stage N°1 of the skin ageing process. When cells are treated with red camellia extract, their vitality increases by 67%¹.
